…Thank you Maddee Pee Bayfield.
During the past 14 years you completed our circle of love… You were an old soul…passing through…us being the lucky family you had chosen during your stay on earth.

…we spent our afternoon feeding carrots to retired thoroughbred racing stars…Winners of the Kentucky Derby, the Belmont Stakes, the Preakness, the Breeders Cup: just to name the big prize races.
The Derby, Preakness and Belmont comprise of the Triple Crown: add in the Breeders Cup and you have a Grand Slam winner… American Pharoah… the first ever: who we visited last year at Coolmore Farms A horse can live into his 30’s. His racing career often ends at the age of 3, after the Triple Crown. There is a huge need for a forever home for these racing stars to live out their lives.

The founder of Old Friends: a non-profit farm where these champions live out their lives in a safe, dignified environment. It is here that I met my newest friend: Silver Charm.
Silver Charm is now 24. He won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness 21 years ago in 1997 at the age of 3.
The story goes that he had a hidden secret: a blind spot on his left that was used against him at the finish line of the Belmont Stakes, taking away his bid for the Triple Crown. Touch Gold who beat Silver Charm that day resides not far from Silver’s Charms paddock.
We connected…we talked through our eyes, our body language and the manner in which I spoke to him and he spoke to me. It was “over the top” for me. I will be back.
