
I said with indifference “Goodbye” to four of my Bayfield gardens this week. The oldest was established as a hospital garden when we were building CedarCliffe. It was to be a temporary sanctuary for my beautiful peony patch situated in the front of “Old” CedarCliffe. Over the years it matured into my nemesis as I added a massive collection of plantings. I became an entrenched slave to its uncompromising weeds. This year I finally surrendered. I finally accept the simple truth that I cannot have “weedless” gardens in a Bayfield lawn of weeds.
