Orchids…

I genuinely respect orchids…
My favorite is the white “phalaenopsis”.  Many believe they are a needy complex species.  I believe they are a hardy independent genus. They ask for little…give so much. Beautiful blooms visit a minimum of 3 months.  After their visit the stem is cut just above one of the stem nodules and  patience waits.  They require little attention.  The long erect roots that shoot from the base  capture from the sky the majority of moisture required for survival.   Six months may pass before their return. Gradually… a new stem will shoot either from the stem nodule or the base of the plant.

??????????????????????????????? The blooms above span 5 inches. One plant survived the winter here all alone. They just seem so happy..asking for so little…giving me so much.  I believe that all they really ask of me is a westerly view of the water before them. This allows the “Sun” to nourish their heavy body’s as the “Diamonds” feed their silent Souls.

2004-20014

I said with indifference “Goodbye” to four of my Bayfield gardens this week. The oldest was established as a hospital garden when we were building CedarCliffe.  It was to be  a temporary sanctuary for my beautiful  peony patch situated in the front of  “Old” CedarCliffe.  Over the years it matured  into my nemesis as I added a massive collection of plantings.  I became an entrenched slave to its uncompromising weeds. This year I finally surrendered.  I finally accept the  simple truth that I cannot have “weedless” gardens in a Bayfield lawn of weeds.

Good-bye my beauties…
