Our Twelve Day Christmas Journey: Day Four

On our fourth day of Christmas the weather is not cooperating.  We pull out our rain gear and decide to poke around the park.  Entering Empire I have a flash back to 5th grade as we pass by the old school. day-4-004I did not actually go to school in this facility, but right behind was a tiny building that housed my 5th grade class.  We called it the chicken coop; it is no longer there.

Driving across the Narrows (Big Glen on the left,  Little Glen on the right)  We had an interesting sighting.

day-4-009  It was just bouncing around in the middle  of Little Glen. Go figure.

We drove to Lake Michigan off Port Oneida road, disappointingly we found no beach. This was concerning.  Next stop; Good Harbor.

day-4-013 There, we found a walkable beach only because there was no wind or waves.  The impact of increased water levels was everywhere. The picture on the right shows a 3′ cliff etched into the beach grass caused from days of heavy waves. Still in the bay was anchored the ship that we spotted yesterday near Whale Backday-4-0161.  Today it was on the other side of the Bay.  We walk to the point and on our return the day began to turn into evening.day-4-015  As the sun’s rays fell through the clouds and onto the water, diamonds began to glisten on its surface.  It was beautiful; the earth was silent in peace.

Our Twelve Day Christmas Journey- Day Three

On our third day of Christmas with the “flip” of a lid,   Cantricks.com’s Leelanau office is open for business.day3-020

Historically the auto industry is slow this time of year.  I am hopeful that its history will not disappoint me.

Noon arrives;  into the Chariot through the woods and off to lunch we go.

day3-002Making our way into Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore we decide to dine at my favorite  childhood “watering hole”.

Over the years this little establishment has become a Park destination highlight.  Can’t help but wonder why… day3-001Unfortunately,  no sighting of Tim.

We make our way to Lake Michigan Drive seeking the peace of the beach.  The sky is gray.  The air is damp; little snow surrounding.  I begin to fret, without snow how will Santa find me?day3-012

Our Twelve Day Christmas Journey: Day Two

On our second day of Christmas we continue to settle.  After devouring our “favorite” Polish Kielbasa from Gabe’s in Maple City,  we lick our satisfied chops, hop into the mobile crate, and find our way to our God Daughter Ashley  and Co.’s home  (Brent Avery & Kylee).christmas-set-up-004

Hugs and kisses and giggles begin.  We enjoy their beautiful tree and Christmas cheer; their daughters’ stealing the stage; us enjoying every precious moment.
Back into the crate, we journey to Mom & Dad’s Lake home on Lime Lake.  They no longer live here  but have kept it in the family to make it available to us for gatherings.  Kip and I are hosting our family Christmas this year and tonight LSD (Lin-Sher-Dave) and spouses along with Mom and Dad join together to begin the preparations: decorating.christmas-set-up-010christmas-set-up-012

more hugs giggles, laughter, Papa John’s, food and cheer.  christmas-set-up-014As we scurry about, wonderful sniffs of Mom and Dad’s dinner preparations begin to fill the air.  christmas-set-up-020 They are hosting dinner on this eve before the eve, before the eve,  before the eve of Christmas…yum
